For a while now I have been trying to install the Yahoo Widget Engine on Vista Beta 2 and it never seemed to work. Then I read a solution from the Konfabulator Forum for the procedure. It requires the use of a computer running XP. In my case I have a copy of XP running in VMware Player.
1) install the Yahoo Widget Engine on the XP computer. 2) Install the Yahoo Widget Engine on the Vista Computer using the Yahoo installer. 3) After the installation is complete on the Vista computer you will notice that there is no .exe file in the Widget Engine folder. For some reason the installer fails to copy that file to the folder. Here is where the XP computer comes in handy. 4) Copy the .exe file from the XP computer and place it in the Yahoo Widget Engine folder on the Vista computer. 5) Run the .exe file and then you will have Yahoo Widgets on the Vista computer.
Right now I prefer the Yahoo Widgets to the Windows Sidebar Gadgets. The selection of Gadgets to choose from is rather small. I think it should get better in the future.
Hope this is a help to you all.
